Duties:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all guests in and around the pool area
- Monitor swimmers and enforce pool rules and regulations
- Respond quickly and effectively to any emergencies or incidents
- Provide excellent guest service and address any concerns or questions
- Perform routine pool cleaning and maintenance tasks
- Conduct regular inspections of the pool area and equipment
Qualifications:
- Must be certified in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding
- Strong swimming skills and ability to perform water rescues
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
Responsibility of this position is to provide a safe swimming environment for the public. Lifeguards are scheduled 3 - 5 days/week including weekends and holidays. In-service training sessions are required. Reports to the Pool Manager and/or Head Lifeguard.
Examples of Duties

- Adhere with all standards of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Program.
- Recognize and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.
- Supervising swimming activities and enforcing all facility policies, rules, and regulations to ensure the safety of patrons.
- Constantly scan assigned zone of protection to keep swimmers safe.
- Tend to guests with first aid situations.
- General cleaning and pool maintenance.
- Participate in regular required in-service training.
- Follow Aquatics procedures and guidelines.
- Help with special events, as assigned.
- Teaching swim lessons throughout the summer.Teach children ages 6 months to 15 years, and adults, the fundamentals of learning to swim using games, songs, and repetition.
- Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels and know how to use course materials effectively.
- Must be able to work weekends, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day as well as have consistent hours for the last 2 weeks of the season.
- Scheduled to rotate between both Holiday Pool and O’Neil Aquatics Center. Sub when needed.
Typical Qualifications
- Must be able to swim proficiently.
- Must have clear verbal communication skills.
- Must be dependable, alert, confident, self-motivated, outgoing, energetic, and ability to problem solve.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to deal with staff and public in a positive manner, e.g. must be tactful, consistent, and firm when enforcing pool rules and administering discipline.
- Must attend the aquatic pre-season staff training.
- Ability to accept direction and follow proper policy and procedures.
- Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with department standards.
Minimum Age: 15
Required Certification:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard and Waterpark Skills Certification
