TEMPORARY FULL TIME – STAFF ASSISTANT (PAINTER)
OPERATIONS DIVISION
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
Incumbent performs a wide variety of painting and refinishing duties and tasks in city parks and at City owned facilities. Incumbent supervises the daily work routine of one other temporary part time person, (Laborer I Painter). Also, at times, operates power washer to clean surfaces and/or remove graffiti.
Employee works under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Working Foreperson. Self-directed with minimal supervision. Frequently, the employee may be directed to complete a job task without direct supervision. Additional duties include but are not limited to:
· Paints park site equipment such as trash barrels, playground equipment, gates, signs, railings, etc.
· Paints building exteriors, trim, etc. as required. Must be able to work at 50’ heights (light poles).
· Paints building interior, trim, etc. as required.
· Removes graffiti and cleans surfaces of shelters, buildings and other structures through use of automated power washer.
· Removal of litter and other debris from assigned areas as directed.
· Takes part in set-ups and dismantles of tables, chairs, tents, stages, etc. for special events as needed
· Other duties as assigned.
TRAINING/SPECIAL SKILLS:
Most duties are performed based on a project schedule, and are reviewed by a supervisor to ensure quality and efficiency standards are met.
- Working knowledge, skill, and experience in the proper use and application of various stains, paints, primers, application tools, and equipment.
- Possess or obtain current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to complete projects in a timely manner and at a high quality standard.
- Working knowledge of mechanics and ability to perform safety/maintenance equipment inspections.
- Must be self-motivated, and have the ability to interact and work well with the public and other employees.
- Must be reliable, punctual, have the ability to follow oral and written direction, and be capable of performing physically demanding work.
- Valid driver’s license. Good driving record.
PHYSICAL EFFORT/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be in good physical condition. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is exerted by the employee in the setup and preparation time prior to painting; including frequent bending, stooping, and the movement of extremities. Employee must be physically capable of lifting weights in excess of 50 pounds. Must be physically capable and legally allowed to work at heights in excess of 50 feet.
Employee performs duties in and out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to work sites with traffic, noise, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes.
HOURS:
8 hours per day, 7:30am-3:30pm. 40 hour work week, except holiday weeks and during periods of inclement weather. Employees under age eighteen are subject to restrictions on both hours and prohibited occupations.
April 14 – September 26 Term of employment not to exceed nine months.
Facilities Maintenance Working Foreperson
$17.96 - $18.16 per hour.
