What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks and Recreation Intern (Programs) position at City of Bloomington?
To provide a future Parks and Recreation professional, who is a senior or graduate student studying parks and recreation curriculum, a quality introduction into the administration and implementation of Parks and Recreation programs.
Program Implementation:
- Designs and delivers programs specific to youth and family programs, including summer camps, outdoor recreation events, and other programs as assigned
- Documents and informs supervisor of on-site program concerns including scheduling conflicts, maintenance needs, and all other pertinent program related issues.
- Completes assigned program reports, surveys, and evaluations
Facility Operations & Maintenance
- Assist with reservations, scheduling, and supervision of Parks and Recreation facilities.
- Communicate schedules, concerns, and repairs with Park Maintenance and Facilities staff.
- Serve one week of responsibilities as a member of Park Maintenance staff.
Marketing & Public Relations
- Assists in coordination of program publicity and promotion.
- Create flyers and other promotional items
- Schedules and attend outreach events promoting Bloomington Parks and Recreation
Human Resource Management
- Assists with implementation of volunteer services
- Assists with the scheduling, communication and ongoing recruitment of seasonal staff
- Participates in own performance evaluation, identifying past accomplishments, problems, goals, and personal improvement plan.
- Develop relationships, provide assistance and gain an understanding of each position’s responsibilities within the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Division.
Budgeting & Financial Management
- Position will receive public use purchase training
- Assists in the tracking and purchase of program supplies
- Participates in and is responsible for single week camp budget, including proposal, purchasing, tracking, and program cost analysis review.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a student in good standing in a Parks and Recreation curriculum or related field.
- Computer proficiency: specifically Microsoft Office programs
- Experience working in community recreation
- Problems solving techniques and abilities
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently as needed
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills of supervising staff
- Experience with recreation software programs
- CPR/First Aid certified
