TEMPORARY FULL TIME – SPECIALIST - URBAN GREENSPACE VEGETATION MANAGEMENT
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT – 1 Position
OPERATIONS DIVISION – Class F
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Employee works as a member of the Urban Greenspace Vegetation Management crew. Monitors and controls invasive plants within the park system using multiple methods. Supports volunteer vegetation management efforts. Installs and maintains native plantings. Additional duties include but are not limited to:
· Maintains accurate records of herbicide applications and maintenance activities on daily basis.
· Utilizes ESRI Field Maps app to collect data on a daily basis.
· Other duties as assigned (e.g. assist the Urban Greenspace Landscaping and Outreach Teams and/or the Cemetery Grounds crews, event setup and teardown, etc.).
TRAINING/SPECIAL SKILLS:
· Possess or obtain OISC Certified Pesticide Applicator/Registered Technician License within 30 days of hire
· Possess or obtain current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
· Experience with ESRI Field Maps.
· Knowledge of forest, prairie and riparian ecosystems; and plants invasive to this area.
· Ability to safely use hand tools, motorized equipment, and operate vehicles.
· Demonstrate a positive attitude and team mentality. Must have the ability to interact and work well with the public and other employees.
· Must have a valid Driver’s License and maintain a good driving record.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Must be in excellent physical condition. Ability to lift and carry a 30 pound backpack sprayer for extended periods over rough terrain. Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, cutting, shoveling, etc. Moderate to strenuous physical effort is frequently required for extended periods of time in the lifting and loading of equipment, tools, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employees perform duties outdoors, in varying weather conditions, and are periodically exposed to ticks, poison ivy, stinging insects, extreme temperatures and humidity. Safety precautions, including use of Personal Protective Equipment, must be used to avoid injury.
HOURS: 8 hours per day, 7:30am-3:30pm. However, hours and job duties vary with the season. Some evenings and Saturdays required. 40 hour work week, except holidays and during periods of inclement weather.
SEASON:March - November (Term of employment not to exceed nine months).

SALARY: $19.33 per hr.
