General Description of the Job:
Performs difficult skilled and intermediate technical work supervising the maintenance and repair of City parks and related facilities or in the performance of a specialized activity; does related work as required.
Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision is exercised over a large crew of unskilled, semiskilled, and skilled workers.
Essential Functions
- In coordination with District Supervisor or superior, schedules work projects and assigns staff and equipment; orders required parts for irrigation repairs;
- Inspects maintenance, repair, installation and construction sites and gives technical advice and assistance to personnel;
- Checks projects for progress and for conformance to work plans and orders;
- Receives requests for emergency and unscheduled work and coordinates completion of task;
- Coordinates the use of available equipment, materials, and personnel to obtain maximum effectiveness and economy;
- May supervise assigned areas such as landscaping or building maintenance.
- Monitor contractors performing park maintenance work or construction.
- Assists with athletic field maintenance, mowing, or other activity;
- Participates in employee evaluations; assist with budget preparation and monitoring;
- Clears registers and returns money for depositing;
- Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- the methods and practices of and the equipment and tools used in the repair and/or maintenance of parks and related facilities
- the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work and related equipment operation
Skilled in:
- the use of the equipment and tools of the trade
Ability to:
- prepare plans and detailed reports
- ability to plan and supervise the work of skilled, semiskilled, and unskilled workers
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departmental staff, contractors, and the general public.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
- Any associate degree from an accredited junior college or any equivalent combination of education and experience, plus four (4) years of experience in park or general maintenance work, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
CERTIFICATIONS / PROFESSIONAL LICENSES:
- Ability to obtain a Florida State Pesticide Applicator License within six (6) months of employment. Position may require other special licenses or certificates.
- Possession of a valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license with no more than six (6) points in the last three (3) years.
