What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Inspector position at City of Boca Raton?
Performs technical civil-related inspections on all types of private development and public works capital construction projects. Inspections and testing include but are not limited to earthwork, sanitary collection systems, water distribution, surface water drainage systems, roadway/paving, hardscape surfaces including pavers and concrete walk installations, and all other infrastructure-related improvements. This position ensures compliance with all applicable city, state and regulatory requirements. This position relies heavily on field experience and expertise with the ability to make independent judgement-based decisions as they relate to code and accepted installation practices. The ability to articulate requirements to residents and contractors verbally and in written form is required.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS AND CONDITIONS:
- Conducts field inspections on a variety of private and public construction projects.
- Verify work is in conformance with the approved plans and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with City Ordinance, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, (OSHA), National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Florida Building Code (FBC), American Traffic Safety Services Association, (ATSSA), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, (MUTCD) and other related regulatory requirements.
- Conduct and attend pre-construction and project meetings
- Prepare daily progress reports
- Verify field quantities
- Review payment requests
- Document deficient work and follow up on corrective actions
- Witness/Provide testing of water distribution, sanitary collection, roadway, drainage systems, including landscape and irrigation systems
- Maintain proper NPDES files and inspections for each project
- Substantial and Final Completion Inspections and documentation.
- Respond to resident concerns during construction
- Exhibit a thorough knowledge of engineering construction practices, techniques, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, specifications, and details.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents, contractors, and engineering staff.
- Ability to maintain accurate inspection records.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products to include WORD and EXCEL
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral instructions.
- Ability to clearly communicate in English orally and in writing.
- Ability to make good independent decisions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Requirement to be ethical and fair and adhere to all City workplace policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements:
- Any combination of validated education and experience totaling an equivalent 5 years’ field experience in civil engineering work or inspection.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Possess an active Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
Preferred Requirements:
- NPDES Certified Inspector license (required during probation period)
- Associate’s degree in civil engineering or project management
- ATSSA Certification
- OSHA 10-hour Certification
- ACI Technician
