GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Under the direction of the Program Services Librarian III, this position is responsible for the effective administration, operation, budgeting, training, and evaluation of a major service center in the Spanish River Library. Work includes supervision of professional and paraprofessional personnel and volunteers- Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the public library’s Library Events & Community Engagement programs and services offerings to the Public, to City employees, and to the library staff
- Maintains excellent relations with the Public by handling escalated customer complaints, customer feedback and customer suggestions in a professional manner
- Maintains excellent relations with the Instructional Services staff, BRPL leadership team, the Recreation Services Department, other City departments, and BRPL stakeholders through regular communication, meetings, and reporting
- Oversees the hiring, orientation, training, supervision, scheduling, professional development, and regular evaluation of all Library Events & Community Engagement professional personnel, paraprofessional personnel; oversees the selection, orientation, training, supervision and scheduling of Library Events & Community Engagement volunteer or intern personnel
- Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the planning and implementation for events, promotional materials, and enrollment for Summer Reading, art gallery exhibits, film or book discussion series and library-wide initiatives and provides support for programs led by library section heads or library committees.
- Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the library’s Mobile Library Services, including community and school outreach, community partnerships, and delivery of offsite library services.
- Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises collaborative library events or programming with other City or Recreation Services teams.
- Oversight of library room reservations, including for City use, Friends, and library events, and works collaboratively with the custodial and maintenance teams to provide excellent event and room reservation customer service
- Oversight for the library newsletter and website banners, library materials for events, programs, or room reservations, and the library’s Recreator pages, and acts as the Library’s point person with the City and Recreation Services communications teams
- Serves as needed as a member of the library leadership team to determine and implement library policy, procedures, and programs related to Library Events & Community Engagement
- Collect, analyses and reports Library Events & Community Engagement statistics
- Assists in analyzing, preparing and administering budgets in assigned areas
- Enforces the Rules of Conduct, library policies, and procedures and maintains order at the libraries
Knowledge of:
- Professional library principles, practices, methods, and techniques
- Relevant literature, methods, trends, and developments in the field of library services
Skilled in:
- The use of computers and software applications to a high degree of proficiency
- Communication – expressing ideas effectively, in conversation, in writing, and during presentations, demonstrating an excellent command of grammar and proficiency in writing, editing, and proofreading content for accuracy.
- Administration and organization
- Research and a high degree of knowledge of information resources
- Collection, review, and interpretation of statistical data relating to library services and operations
Ability to:
- Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of professional, paraprofessional, and/or clerical staff and volunteers
- Work a flexible schedule that includes weekdays, weekends, and evenings as needed
- Research and analyze administrative library problems, and to make recommendations for their resolution
- Interpret library mission and objectives to community groups and the public.
- Maintain administrative and fiscal records, prepare reports and collect and report statistics.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Work independently or as a part of a team and to organize and lead projects
- Plan, organize, and direct the work of professional, paraprofessional and volunteers
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, library patrons, approved community partners and others.
- Assist in the establishment of library policies and to provide accurate interpretation to community groups, public officials, professional groups, and the general public as needed.
- Represent the library at professional meetings and to participate in the development or improvement of professional library methods and standards. when assigned.
- Work independently. prioritize duties and tasks. and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
- Tolerate occasional to moderate exposure to dust.
- Act as Building Administrator in Charge, Librarian Ill. or Library Manager, as requested.
- Master's degree in library and/or information science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association required or student currently enrolled in an accredited MLIS program
- Two (2) years' experience working in libraries, education, museums, or nonprofits required
- Possession of a valid State of Florida Class 'E' driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One (1) year supervisory experience.
- Experience with event promotion and marketing, including use of relevant promotion or design software, is preferred.
