What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Landscape Mechanic position at City of Boca Raton?
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs semi-skilled work in the repair, maintenance, and care of irrigation system and control valves at Utility complex and remote stations; works on landscaping; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
Repairs and maintains irrigation systems
Adjusts irrigation control boxes
Digs ditches for irrigation lines;
Helps disassemble pumps, replaces defective parts, and reassembles pump;
Checks all irrigation systems for leaks and ensures proper operation;
Checks clocks, timers, valves, and heads;
Keeps grounds clean, manages pests;
Replaces missing sprinkler heads; repairs broken lines.
Trims trees, bushes; operates leaf blowers
Installs landscaping improvements
RELATED TASKS:
Make weekly inspection of all irrigated areas
Makes list of necessary supplies, parts, equipment, and tools to be stocked
Coordinates work with contractors
Assists Plant Mechanics as needed
Makes entries via computer systems into maintenance programs
Performs related tasks as required.
General knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in irrigation system maintenance and repair work; knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools, and techniques of irrigation system repair and maintenance; some knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the job, including chemicals and fertilizers; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to use common hand tools; ability to operate required machinery and equipment including forklifts, backhoes, trenchers and diggers; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods; skill in the operation, maintenance, and repair of electric irrigation controllers and solenoid valves; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Basic computer operation knowledge.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and at least one (1) year of experience in pump maintenance or irrigation system work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of valid State of Florida Class "E" driver's license with no more than six (6) points in a three (3) year period.
Abstained from the use of cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco products for at least one year prior to their date of hire, and shall abstain from the use of tobacco products at all times during the period of their employment with the City while both on and off duty.
