Summary Statement

The Department of Arts & History is seeking an Education and Public Programs Manager to help advance our mission of cultivating a distinct sense of place that reflects Boise’s rich past, diverse communities, and unique natural setting.


In this role, you will guide the strategy, development, and evaluation of education and public programs, ensuring alignment with the city’s mission and department goals. You will play a pivotal part in designing community-first educational initiatives and collaborating with staff to create meaningful experiences highlighting our department’s resources. Additionally, you will manage and support volunteers, docents, and interns to amplify the impact of our work.

Essential Functions

Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Is capable of handling basic to complex issues and problems, and provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group, as needed.

Implements established policies and procedures that allow for efficient and effective coordination and delivery of community-first educational programs and resources to meet department goals. Provides training and collaborates with department staff to develop, coordinate and implement cultural learning opportunities and educational programs including, but not limited to: tours, talks, workshops and exhibition activation. Assists in developing tour scripts, scheduling and coordination of guided tours and in the training of volunteer docents and interns using interpretive best practices. Uses project management principles to create programs under designated cross-divisional, cross-departmental and citywide initiatives.

Designs, develops and implements effective evaluation tools to track, measure and present program impact, participant satisfaction and community engagement.

Serves as a liaison and represents the department to educational organizations. Conducts regular outreach and coordinates dissemination of educational programs and resources to existing, new and underrepresented audiences and community organizations, such as area schools, libraries, museums and cultural organizations. Researches, identifies and recruits educators, education administrators and other relevant individuals to cultivate interest in and use of departmental educational materials that meet Idaho’s Content Standards.

Coordinates the department's program calendar and promotes programs and volunteer opportunities.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Bachelor's degree in a humanities-related field or education and four years of experience of work in a humanities-related field or educational environment, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Knowledge of: technical writing; standards, practices and trends in education, including local school district curriculum and local university’s humanities degree programs; principles and practices of needs assessment, program implementation and program evaluation; project management; and computer usage including related software.

Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships; organize, manage projects and solve problems; think creatively and collaboratively; work without close supervision; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Master’s degree in an arts and/or humanities field and five years of experience managing and coordinating education and public programs or similar projects.

Teaching certificate.

Licensing And Other Requirements


Valid state-issued driver's license.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds and rarely pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position.
