Summary Statement
Instructs and coaches youth in the fundamentals of the game of tennis. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older.
This position is designated as At-Will.
Essential Functions
Instructs or coaches students on the fundamentals of the game of tennis, including rules and various techniques to improve performance. Demonstrates various tennis techniques to students.
Communicates with the Youth Tennis Supervisor and administrative staff on rainouts, concerns or other issues involving the classes. Attends training sessions as required. Ensures the well-being of students while taking part in scheduled classes. Advises students on safety procedures and proper form to minimize injury.
Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Experience playing tennis competitively at high school level or recreational adult league level.
Knowledge of: rules of the game of tennis and various techniques used in the game.
Ability to: learn lesson plans and tools; demonstrate skills to participants; deal with the public, coworkers and supervisors in a friendly and tactful manner; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Two years of experience teaching and/or coordinating tennis programs and classes.
First Aid and CPR certification.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will stand, walk, runn, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures and in wet and humid conditions.
This position works: weekday evenings if instructing adult classes and weekday mornings if instructing youth classes.
