What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Intern position at City of Boise?
The Mayor’s Office is looking for a self-motivated, policy-focused intern interested in ensuring that Boiseans have safe, healthy, affordable homes. Interns will conduct broad policy research and quantitative and qualitative research related to housing in Boise, with a likely focus on residents’ experiences of health and safety issues and housing quality. This will require interviewing residents, housing providers, and staff at service-providing nonprofits. Interns will provide relevant policy recommendations in the form of a written report and a presentation for relevant stakeholders at the conclusion of their internship.
This position is designated as At-Will.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Strong interest in issues related to housing. Knowledge and experience in a housing-related field is a plus, but not required.
- Experience in policy advocacy, analysis, and research within the government or non-profit sector.
- Flexibility and strong time management skills; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and implement multiple projects simultaneously and to manage tight deadlines and unexpected tasks as they arise.
- Excellent written and oral communication experience as well as the ability to synthesize complex information from a variety of sources.
- Experience working with diverse community partners and a proven track record of successful, mutually respectful relationships within a professional network
Internship Requirements:
To be eligible for the City of Boise Internship Program, applicants must be:
- Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong academic record or graduated in the last 12 months from an accredited university
- Pursuing studies in public policy, social work, public health, or a related field
- Be able to work 20 hours per week.
- Be able to commit to the entire internship program
