The Boise Police Department is seeking a detail-oriented and professional individual to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining the security, privacy, and confidentiality of police records while ensuring compliance with policies and procedures for records release. You will be responsible for processing public records requests, responding to inquiries from the public, media, and government agencies, and assisting walk-in customers with various requests. This position operates under immediate supervision and requires strong attention to detail and adherence to legal guidelines. Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Is capable of performing all duties of a Public Records Technician I and provides team support and training, as needed. 

Assists outside law enforcement personnel, city employees and members of the public with queries at the front counter. Scans walk-in requests into the queue. 

Redacts reports, photos and other records for public records requests (PRRs). Collects, organizes and redacts on-body video, audio and digital evidence for Discovery to partner prosecuting agencies. Prepares DUI logs for sharing with area prosecuting partners monthly. 

Logs assigned PRRs into related software. Assists in collecting digital records responsive to subpoenas and/or other large PRR requests. 

Research records and complex requests in multiple systems. Creates cost invoices for requests that require more than two hours of staff time. Works closely with the city’s public safety paralegals and city attorneys to meet the requirements of the Idaho Public Records Act. 

Confidential releases to other Law Enforcement agencies that require NCIC redaction. Packages requests from internal officers/detectives for release to partner law enforcement/government agencies. 

Collects, sorts and organizes evidence items released from Ada County Property and other department records in preparation for archiving. Enters department records and evidence into the city’s document storage system for archiving. Uses the city’s retention schedule for the purposes of compliance with state and city records management guidelines.

High school diploma and two years of experience in administrative support or customer service, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Knowledge of: best customer service practices; telephone etiquette; functions of law enforcement; and computer usage including related software.

Ability to: conduct thorough independent research; maintain strict confidentiality, be analytical and use sound judgment; prioritize, multi-task and organize work and coordinate with outside agencies; interact with the public with professionalism and compassion; work independently and as a member of a robust team; perform searches of various applications and databases; create detailed, accurate and effective reports and documents; communicate in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Four years of progressively responsible experience performing administrative and/or operational support duties in a law enforcement setting.

Knowledge of: the Idaho Public Records law Idaho State Code §9-335 through 9-35; law enforcement systems; law enforcement verbiage and procedures; and laws governing the release of public information, such as law enforcement records.

Licensing And Other Requirements

Valid state-issued driver's license.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position.

Salary : $16 - $19
