Ridge 2 Rivers Seasonal Trails Maintenance

Boise Parks and Recreation maintains more than 90 parks, 200 miles of trails, 25 miles of the Boise River Greenbelt pathway, and hundreds of acres of open space. Successful candidates will take pride in playing an essential role in keeping Boise beautiful! 

Seasonal Trails Maintenance:

• Maintains trails and recreation facilities, and enacts protection measures in the Boise Foothills. 
• Work is performed autonomously, under general supervision and direction. 
• Is open to all interested persons 19 years of age and older. 
• Works up to 40 hours per week for up to 9 months. 
• Is designated as At-Will.

Performs maintenance to trails throughout the Ridge to Rivers trail system. Constructs trails open to foot, mountain bike, horse, and motorized users. Constructs and maintains post and rail and smooth wire fences. 

Provides information to the general public regarding trails and trail use while working in assigned areas. 

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Six months' experience performing general trail construction and maintenance, or similar landscaping or agricultural experience.

Working knowledge of trail maintenance and construction techniques.

Ability to operate ATV's and mountain bikes in steep mountainous terrain; utilize hand and power tools in a safe manner; walk long distances over uneven terrain while carrying tools and equipment; interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Two years' experience building and maintaining trails.

Licensing And Other Requirements

Valid state-issued driver's license

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds and frequently lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds and frequently pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds. The noise level is occasionally loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.Additional physical efforts include: lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical hazards. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to chemicals. This position works in outdoor conditions during the summer months along dry trails and may come in contact with dogs, spiders, and snakes. Smoky conditions
