What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Development Assistant position at City of Bolivar?
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The Community Development Assistant shall assist with the completion of various aspects of community development to include but not limited to: Code Enforcement duties to assist Code Compliance Technician, processing of building files and plans, organizational assistance and providing the Planning and Zoning and Building Department with administrative assistance.
SUPERVISION
Under general supervision from the Community Development Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform on-site inspections in assistance of the Code Compliance Technician.
- Assist in record creation with the Code Compliance Technician.
- Communicate effectively with the public regarding Code Enforcement issues and/or violations.
- Maintain records for inspections.
- Train alongside the Planning and Zoning Technician.
- Assist the Building and Fire Code Official in educating the public on the benefit of robust building and fire codes while maintaining a positive and business friendly community.
- Communicate courteously with the public and effectively explain regulations and guidelines.
- Assist the Building and Fire Code Official in general office duties and records maintenance.
- Travel to on-site inspections throughout the City of Bolivar.
- Work to maintain compliance and updated efforts with various City plans such as; Comprehensive Plan, Transportation Plan, Active Transportation Plan, etc.
- Assist with office duties related to Bid Packets, Fleet Management Software, File Storage and/or management, etc.
- Complete and maintain records and reports of inspections which may include data entry, typing and filing.
- Any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
- Prefer a College degree (Bachelor’s level or higher) and demonstrate College level writing, reading and research skills or similar proven experience.
- Grant or research experience or similar types of application/proposal production.
- Administrative experience.
- Experience working well in a team with multifaceted objectives.
- Specific on the job training provided.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of municipal government operations, familiarity with City ordinances.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to meet and deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner.
- Ability to manage confidential information appropriately and professionally at all times.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail amidst a multi task, changing priority environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting.
- Constant sitting, but may involve walking or standing.
- Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist or climb.
- Ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Hold and grip objects.
- Exposure to a variety of extreme weather conditions.
- Subject to safety hazards associated with inspections.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
- Valid Missouri Driver’s License and must remain insurable under the City’s liability insurance policy.
