General Definition of Work
Under the supervision of the recreation coordinator this position will perform duties associated with officiating various recreation leagues in a fair and consistent manner in accordance with the Bonner Springs Parks and Recreation league rules and regulations pertaining to offered sport programs.

Essential Functions
Officiate Bonner Springs Parks and Rec sports leagues; Be familiar with and enforce league rules and regulations; Assure the games are played in a fair and safe manner; Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers; Comply with and promote safe practices in agreement with the safety rules and procedures; Communicate game situations to scorekeepers, timers and field/court supervisors; Ability to administer rules in a fair and consistent manner; Ability to report on time for all scheduled games; Ability to work at least three (3) games in succession; Ability to work a flexible schedule with weekend and evening work required; Perform other duties deemed necessary and assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
An ability to establish a positive rapport with all spectators, coaches, players, and staff; an ability to effectively communicate with all spectators, coaches, players, and staff; must have the ability to read and write; the ability to be committed to the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the City of Bonner Springs; ability to obey and comply with all City ordinances and policies.
Education and Experience
Previous sports officiating experience is preferred but not necessary. General knowledge in the sport contracted to officiate for is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a recreation setting. Must be able to walk, stand, run, hear and speak in order to perform essential duties as an official. The independent contractor works indoors and outdoors at a variety of playing sites throughout the BSPR service area. While performing the duties of the job, this position is occasionally exposed to wet and/or hot and humid conditions.
Special Requirements
Be able to provide an appropriate whistle and athletic shoes. Must be 15 years of age.
