We are seeking a motivated seasonal mechanic to join our team for the Spring and Summer months. This role will involve performing and assisting routine maintenance and repairs, on a variety of vehicles and equipment during the peak season.
The Seasonal Mechanic is an hourly non-exempt, seasonal position with a projected average of 40 hours per week. This temporary position is scheduled to work up to four (4) months.

Competency Requirements

- Oil and lubricate all department vehicles according to a designated schedule.
- Inspect the tires, brakes, lights and all other systems on each vehicle, ensuring their proper working condition.
- Make adjustments and repairs to vehicles as needed or requested, keeping accurate record on maintenance and repairs.
- Perform small engine repair and maintenance.
- Run parts for regular Mechanic.
- Clean, organize, and maintain shop.
- Deliver vehicles to and from assigned locations.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent Experience with a variety of tools and equipment.
- Driver’s license
- Successful passing of a required background check
- Driving record acceptable to the City's insurance.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Competency Requirements
- Knowledge of:
- Maintenance and repair of machinery, repair techniques, and maintenance procedures.
- Vehicle and equipment mechanics and ability to use tools effectively and appropriately.
- Safe principles and practices of traffic control and flagging.
- Safety standards and precautions related to work.
- Skill in the operation of a variety of light equipment, hand tools and portable equipment,
- Ability to:
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely.
- Perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions and in dirty, uncomfortable conditions.
- Work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, employees and the public.
- Effectively meet and deal with internal customers and the public while responding to customers in a friendly and professional manner. Handle stressful situations while establishing effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and pleasant demeanor in difficult, stressful situations while diplomatically dealing with individuals. A willingness is expected to expend extra effort to help the public find answers or information relative to their inquiry or complaint.
