Position Overview

As a Firefighter I with the Borger Fire Department, you play an integral role in responding to emergency incidents, conducting firefighting operations, and supporting efforts to ensure the safety of both personnel and the public. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to serving the community and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Emergency Response: Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergencies as directed by supervisors.
  • Fire Suppression: Perform firefighting operations, including operating hoses, nozzles, and other firefighting equipment to extinguish fires and control fire spread.
  • Search and Rescue: Conduct search and rescue operations to locate and evacuate occupants from burning buildings or other hazardous environments.
  • Emergency Medical Support: Provide support to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel during medical emergencies, including assisting with patient care and transportation.
  • Hazardous Materials Response: Assist with containment and mitigation efforts during hazardous materials incidents, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Training and Development: Participate in training sessions, drills, and exercises to maintain proficiency in firefighting techniques, emergency medical care, and other relevant skills.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and inspect firefighting equipment, apparatus, and vehicles to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety standards.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with community stakeholders, including residents, businesses, and community groups, to promote fire safety awareness and emergency preparedness.

Typical Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification as a Firefighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) required.
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-Basic) by the Texas Department of State Health Services required.
  • Strong commitment to serving the community and upholding the values of the fire department.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work in physically demanding and potentially hazardous environments.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.
