Position Overview
City Ordinance requires individuals hired as firefighters to establish a residence within a 20-minute response area no later than 60 days subsequent to actual employment.
As a Fire Recruit with the Borger Fire Department, you will step into an entry-level role designed to provide you with foundational training and hands-on experience in firefighting and emergency response. You will participate in comprehensive training programs to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to become an effective firefighter. Upon successful completion of your training, you will transition into a full-time Firefighter I role, where you will continue to serve and protect the community.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Training Program Participation: Participate in structured training programs designed to develop proficiency in firefighting techniques, emergency medical care, hazardous materials response, and other relevant skills.
- Skill Development: Learn and practice fundamental firefighting skills, including hose handling, ladder operations, forcible entry, search and rescue techniques, and fire behavior.
- Physical Fitness: Engage in physical fitness training to develop strength, endurance, and agility necessary for firefighting and emergency response activities.
- Classroom Instruction: Attend classroom lectures, presentations, and discussions on topics such as fire science, fire behavior, incident command systems, and emergency medical procedures.
- Hands-On Training: Participate in hands-on training exercises, drills, and simulations to apply theoretical knowledge to practical firefighting scenarios and emergency response situations.
- Equipment Familiarization: Become familiar with firefighting equipment, apparatus, and tools, including fire hoses, nozzles, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and other specialized gear.
- Safety Protocols: Learn and adhere to established safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to ensure personal safety and the safety of team members during training activities and emergency responses.

Typical Qualifications
