Position Overview

As a Water Production and Treatment Lab Technician for the City of Borger, you play a dual role in ensuring the safety and quality of the city's water supply. This position involves both operating water treatment equipment and conducting laboratory tests to analyze water quality. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Water Treatment Operations: Operate and monitor water treatment equipment to ensure the water meets safety and quality standards. Adjust processes as needed based on water source and demand.
  • Quality Testing and Analysis: Conduct routine laboratory tests on water samples to check for chemical and microbiological content, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintenance and Calibration: Perform regular maintenance on water treatment and laboratory equipment, calibrating instruments to ensure accuracy in test results.
  • Data Recording and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of water quality data and equipment operation logs. Prepare reports detailing laboratory findings and operational issues.
  • Problem Resolution: Quickly address any issues in water treatment processes or laboratory findings that could impact water quality. Implement corrective actions and modifications to treatment protocols.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines in the treatment facility and lab, ensuring a safe working environment and compliance with environmental regulations.

Typical Qualifications

  • Education: Associate degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred. High school diploma with relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Experience in water treatment operations and laboratory work, preferably in a municipal water system.
  • Certifications: Certification as a Water Operator and Lab Technician from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or equivalent is highly advantageous.
  • Skills: Proficiency in operating water treatment systems and conducting laboratory tests, strong analytical skills, familiarity with regulatory requirements.
  • Personal Traits: Detail-oriented, reliable, capable of multitasking and working independently, with strong problem-solving skills.
