Job Description Summary:
Working with limited supervision under the Support Services Commander, the Property and Evidence Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the unit by following established, best practices and department policy and procedure. This position provides leadership and subject matter expertise that contribute to the success of the Police Department ensuring that all items of evidentiary value and personal property are properly secured in a manner that aligns with state law and community values, while providing a focus on continuous improvement, and effective, efficient, and accountable service to external and internal customers.Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides support and direction to unit staff by providing resources, communicating expectations, and when appropriate, include staff in the decision-making process.
Coordinates the administrative portion of any expansion of the property and evidence unit to include writing job descriptions, selection of personnel, and updating/development of standard operating procedures.
Plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises the work activities of regular staff and evaluates and reviews their work products and performance.
Ensures compliance with new and existing general orders and standard operating procedures; makes recommendations on needed change.
Completing inspections in compliance with General Order 115 and submitting appropriate CALEA proofs for compliance with accreditation requirements.
Remains current in national standards and best practices.
Completes quality control functions to ensure accuracy and integrity in the unit.
Oversees and coordinates training to new staff and training to department members.
Manages the intake and disposition of property and the storage space needs of the unit.
Compiles statistics for benchmark city surveys.
Handles final disposition process for firearms.
Makes recommendations on and disciplinary action.
Answers citizen requests or complaints and follows applicable department policy.
Reports to and performs other duties as assigned by the Support Services Commander and the Deputy Chief of Staff and Support Services.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working in a Law Enforcement setting
Knowledge of the Axon RMS and Property Modules
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Criminal Justice or related field
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree or 60 college credit hours in a related field.
Four (4) years of experience, in good standing, overseeing the daily operations of a Property and Evidence unit to include input into performance process and training of new staff as assigned.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Demonstrated personal and professional honesty, integrity, good judgment as shown in applicant’s criminal history, background and motor vehicle record, and use of drugs and alcohol. Preference may be given to applicants who have no history of use, sale, or possession of illegal substances. Prior to employment, successful applicants are required to submit to a drug screen, medical and psychological testing, and possibly additional Polygraph and/or Computer Voice Stress Analysis.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Physical and mental effort: Primarily sedentary physical work with constant sitting up to 6-10 hours/day. Constant and repetitive use of the hands for simple grasping and fine manipulation. Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment. Occasional walking and standing up to 2-4 hours/day, climbing stairs, bending, squatting, and pushing/pulling of light items. Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. Occasional ladder use in outside storage areas. Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech for communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees, coworkers and citizens.
Work environment: Working environment will be primarily an office setting and occasionally accessing outside storage bay areas.
Machines and equipment used: Frequently uses standard office equipment including multi-line telephone, personal computer, copy/fax machines and department motor vehicles.
