SUMMARY :
Responsible for operating equipment to assist in the operations, maintenance, and repair of the city's water infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.
Operator I :
- Assists in the installation and repair of water system components.
- Assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, and reading of water metering components.
- Assists in the collection of water samples.
- Performs visual checks of facilities for equipment malfunctions and assists in repairing or correcting malfunctions.
- Maintains records and logs. Collects and records additional performance information.
- Assists in locating underground utilities.
- Performs building maintenance and janitorial duties.
- Assists with traffic safety devices and controls traffic at work sites.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies.
- Assists with special city events.
- May assist with snow removal operations.
- Promotes and supports the overall mission of the City by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

QUALIFICATIONS :
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.
Education and Experience :
Operator I : High School Diploma / GED. One (1) year of maintenance / construction experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred.
Operator II : High School Diploma / GED; AND two (2) years of water operations experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Operator III : High School Diploma / GED; AND three (3) years of water operations experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations :
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
