What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor, Community Standards position at City of Boynton Beach?
Assists with managing the daily operations, including supervision of assigned Community Standards Specialists and Outreach Coordinator(s), attendance tracking, facilities and general operations; determines routine logistical actions and may act on behalf of the Director in his/her absence.
Spends 50% of the shift in the field; conducting joint inspects, sweeping City for violations, conduct ride alongs with staff, etc. The other 50% is spent in the office doing managerial duties and administrative work.
Recommends and assists in interviewing and selecting all new incoming Community Standards Specialists, promotions, and discipline of assigned staff.
Reviews operating procedures to include identifying and analyzing issues and problem-solving; may represent the Director at meetings, conferences, including contacts with outside agencies.
Prioritizes and oversees work and scheduling of assigned Community Standards Specialists; responds to leave requests and ensures accuracy of timesheets in Kronos; prepares annual performance reviews by providing ongoing and formal feedback by documenting as a journal entry in NeoGov.
Organizes, prioritizes, and delegates workload, while monitoring work in progress and inspecting work that is completed. Provides assistance or coverage to other employees as needed.
Provides customer service either directly or through delegation, in person, by phone or by written correspondence. Ensures department/division standards for customer service are met by all employees.
Supervises Specialists deployment and assists others in investigating and responding to unusual or difficult situations and resolving problems and complaints.
Plans and coordinates disaster preparedness for the division to include distribution of supplies, assigning of duties and participating on "Damage Assessment" teams after declared emergencies evaluating structural and property damage.
Composes correspondence, reports, memorandums, forms, etc.; interprets departmental/division administrative and personnel policies and procedures; relays instructions.
Participates in assisting the Community Standards Director in developing, implementing, and maintaining code enforcement policies, priorities, objectives, and goals as it relates to the enforcement of codes and community outreach, and City wide policies, objectives, and goals.
Performs various administrative and reporting duties involving inspection results and reconciliation requirements, e.g., prepares and maintains code enforcement records and reports; collects and analyzes data for departmental reports.
Conducts or attends meetings with other departments, agencies, and/or vendors to develop proposals and contracts.
Conducts scheduled staff and Outreach meetings; creates agendas for such meetings and communicates meeting minutes for such meeting with the entire division.
Attends professional organization functions and provide in-service training utilizing knowledge gained; keep record of assigned Community Standard Specialists and Outreach’s Continuing Education Unit (CEU's) required to maintain current certifications.
Prepares and presents lien reduction cases for special magistrate hearings; prepares and provides photographs, supporting documentation, witness testimony etc.
- Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, business administration, criminal justice, construction, civil engineering, architecture, or urban planning or related field and:
- Three (3) years of experience in customer service, code inspection and/or enforcement or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must include a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience, or as an Outreach Coordinator. Must possess Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE)Level I-II Certifications and acquire Level III within one (1) year of employment or acceptance of this position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
- Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, fire science, construction, civil engineering, architecture, or urban planning or related field.
- Five (5) years previous experience, of which two (2) years were working in a supervisory capacity and/or as an Outreach Coordinator or in an equivalent position.

Salary : $66,982 - $100,473
