PLEASE NOTE: THIS RECRUITMENT IS TO ESTABLISH AN ELIGIBILITY LIST; THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO VACANCIESBASIC FUNCTION: Under general supervision, responds to fire alarms, traffic accidents, rescues and other emergency calls to protect life, environment and property. Participates in training and drill activities; participates in the maintenance of the fire department apparatus, equipment and facilities; performs various staff support assignments; and performs related work as assigned.EDUCATION; Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: A high school graduate or GED equivalent. Candidate must be enrolled in fire science courses or have completed a fire academy at an accredited institute. EMT and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certifications are required. Must obtain a Firefighter I within the first year of employment. Must obtain a valid California driver’s class “C” with all the proper firefighter endorsements within the first year of employment. Applicants are required to meet the City’s physical standards and pass a physical examination before employment.Testing Process: Qualified applicants will be required to complete the following: Written Examination – Assessing knowledge relevant to the role.Physical Agility Test – Evaluating the candidate’s strength, endurance, and ability to perform the physical tasks required for firefighting duties.Candidates must successfully pass both the written examination and physical agility test to advance to the next stage.Oral Interview – A panel interview to assess communication skills, situational judgment, and overall suitability for the position.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Responds to emergency calls in the effort of protecting life and property with firefighting and rescue tactics, assists in fire prevention, and the routine duties associated with the care and maintenance of fire department property and equipment. The emergency calls comes from a variety of alarms, such as structural and environmental fires, traffic accidents, natural gas leaks, medical emergencies and hazardous material spills. Provides first responder medical emergency response at the Basic and EMT support level, including initial patient and situation assessment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and trauma emergency medical care; prepares patients for transport and assists paramedics in advanced life support emergency medical care. Fights fires under departmental procedures and as directed by a fire company officer; connects and lays hose lines, sets ladders and operates fire streams; uses hand and power tools to ventilate and enter burning structures for the purpose of extinguishing fires and to perform search and rescue operations; raises, lowers, and climbs ladders to enter structures; performs salvage, clean up, and overhaul operations during and after fires to remove hazards and protect property. Participates in drills, demonstrations and courses in firefighting techniques, equipment and apparatus operation, medical aid, heavy rescue, hazardous materials, fire prevention, equipment maintenance and a wide variety of other subjects related to the fire service.
