The City of Breckenridge is seeking a highly skilled and results-driven Public Works Director to lead and improve the city's public works systems, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and long-term sustainability. This position requires expertise in surface water and wastewater management. The Director will oversee the Public Works Department, managing operations, planning, administration, financial oversight, and inter-governmental relations concerning public works and development activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the operations and infrastructure of the Public Works Department, which includes water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, water distribution, sanitary sewer collection, streets, facilities, and public works inspections.
- Collaborating with staff to identify deficiencies and implement disciplinary measures as necessary.
- Ensuring a safe work environment.
- Operating a wide range of heavy and light equipment for the maintenance, repair, and construction of city facilities and properties.
- Working with contractors, engineers, and city personnel to ensure smooth execution and compliance with regulations.
Providing regular updates on project status, including timelines, budgets, and quality assurance.
- Encouraging training opportunities and leadership development within the department to foster continuous improvement.
- Ensuring compliance with safety standards across all operations.
- Committed to servant leadership principles: Acting as a liaison between the Public Works Department and the community, addressing concerns and complaints related to infrastructure, water services, and public works activities.
- Maintaining clear and consistent communication with residents, businesses, and other city departments to uphold high service levels and transparency.
- Assisting in the development of the Public Works Department’s budget, focusing on efficient resource allocation for operations and capital projects.
- Overseeing procurement processes and ensuring the responsible use of department funds for equipment and materials.
- Reporting on budget performance and resource allocation to maintain transparency and fiscal responsibility.
- Ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to water distribution, wastewater collection, and infrastructure.
- Maintaining comprehensive documentation and reporting to regulatory agencies as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in municipal public works, water, or wastewater management, including in a supervisory position within the relevant field.
License or Certificate:
- Must hold a Class "C" (or higher) Texas Driver's License. (required)
- Must possess a Class C (or higher) license in surface water or wastewater treatment. (preferred)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
