What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facility Janitor (Laborer II) position at City of Bremerton?
One regular, part-time position budgeted for 27 hours per week for 50 weeks.
Under the supervision of the Parks Maintenance Manager, performs a variety of job tasks related to facility cleaning and maintenance ensuring that activity rooms, restrooms, and public areas are maintained and ready for their intended purpose. Keeps full-time staff informed of any significant events.

- Vacuum, sweep and mop floors.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms.
- Restock restroom supplies.
- Empty all trash and replace liners, clean receptacles as necessary.
- Perform minor plumbing and maintenance repairs.
- Identify and report possible repairs.
- Clean, strip, wax and polish floors using proper cleaning agents and products.
- Clean windows, windowsills, doors, and mirrors.
- Maintain janitorial equipment and closets in a clean, organized and safe manner.
- Enforce safe environments, minimize potential risks, and identify and report unsafe conditions.
- Setup and take down tables and chairs.
- Clean tables and chairs.
- Ensure building security and safety by securing doors and windows.
- General outside grounds maintenance of assigned facilities.
- Vehicle cleaning as required (e.g. wash vehicles, vacuum, windows, etc.)
- Regular attendance is an essential requirement.
- Primarily works evenings and weekends.
- Other routine maintenance duties as assigned.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or the equivalent. Previous experience in janitorial facility maintenance and/or related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above must be demonstrated by the applicant.

Physical Requirements:
- Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
- Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
- Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Crawling. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
- Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
- Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Feeling. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
- Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
- Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
- The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

Oral Examination: A panel will evaluate the applicant’s training, experience, and ability to perform the job. Placement on the eligibility list is determined by weighted examination scores as follows:
Employee Preference: Regular City employees applying for and passing an Open Examination will have seven point five (7.5) percent of their PASSING score added to establish their final score.
Veteran's Preference: Veterans, who have passed an examination, shall be entitled to preference pursuant to Chapter 41.04 RCW.

LEGAL and REGULATORY EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
Fair Labor Standards Act: The classification is nonexempt under the laws of Fair Labor Standards Act minimum wage and overtime provisions.
Representation: This classification is non-represented.
Civil Service: The classification is excluded from the City's Civil Service System.
Appointment and Removal Authority: The position is filled by appointment by the Department Head. Removal is by action of the Department Head in conformance with current labor agreement.
This classification specification does not constitute an employment agreement between the City and employee. It is subject to change by the City as the needs of the City and requirements change.
Salary : $17 - $19
