The salary indicated above includes longevity (1% earned after five years and increases to a maximum of 4% after 20 years).
Operates a variety of specialized equipment and performs varied manual work to maintain City streets. Assists more experienced employees in repair and construction projects. Reports to Street Service Specialist Supervisor, Street Service Specialist Senior, or Street Service Specialist Lead.
Assists in the installation and maintenance of city streets, sidewalks, and right of ways.
Operates construction equipment and power tools including dump trucks, front-end loader, scat truck, backhoe, arrow hammer, compressors, jack hammers, concrete saws.
Inspects, cleans, and repairs small tools and equipment to include: replacement of wear items, and installation of new/or replacement items. Inspects vehicles and equipment for deficiencies prior to operation on a daily basis.
Operates five and ten yard trucks to spreads sand or salt on roadways for ice and snow control; hauls gravel, sand, asphalt, sod, and other materials.
Removes old asphalt and determines subgrade suitability; applies asphalt, repairs pot holes, utility street cuts, and street overlays.
Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner. Resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Provides notice and information within the area of assignment.
Assists in operating paint spray or plastic application equipment to stripe, mark, delineate, or make legends on street surfaces.
Directs the work of temporary employees.
Performs a full range of maintenance and repair duties in assigned area of work.
Sets up and maintains safety of traffic control.
Vegetation control which includes City right of ways grass, weeds, along with any vegetation obstructing signs.

• Troubleshoot equipment operation.
• Understand and follow written and oral instruction.
• Work effectively within a group of five or more employees.
• Report to emergencies 24 hours a day.
• The ability to get along with others and be an effective team member. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or G.E.D. and one (1) year experience in road construction or equipment operation. Valid Washington State Driver’s License. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above must be demonstrated by the applicant.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Washington State Class A CDL within six (6) months of hire.
