The City of Brentwood seeks a dedicated team player to join its Water Services team as a Maintenance Technician.
As the Maintenance Technician you will be responsible for laying/fitting pipe, performing water and sewer line repairs, general maintenance of pumping stations, mowing/trimming landscaped areas, performing landscaping tasks, cleaning workspace and equipment, providing heavy manual labor, and performing a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of the department.
The Water Services Department handles maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure as well as customer services for the City of Brentwood. The department maintains more than 225 miles of water lines, 13 pump stations, and nine finished-water storage tanks with a capacity of 14 million gallons.
The City of Brentwood, located in scenic Williamson County, is considered one of the most desirable suburban locations in Tennessee. It sits just south of Nashville and has a population of approximately 46,000 residents. As a member of the Water Services team you will play a vital role in helping take care of the Brentwood community.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs service and repairs as needed to the City’s water and sewer systems and related equipment. Includes installing main line water & sewer pipe and fittings, cutting/replacing pipe and fittings, repairs and replacing service connections, servicing/replacing water meters, sewer clean-out piping, installing/repairing fire hydrants, grinder system repairs and maintenance, collecting pressure, flow and chlorine information from various locations in the system.
- Provides heavy manual labor functions for water & sewer system maintenance and repairs. Includes, but not limited to, digging holes, handling heavy pipe and materials during repairs and maintenance; mowing, landscaping and clearing easements and department property; general maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles; cleaning of shop/work areas, etc. as directed.
- Operates/maintains equipment and machinery used in water and sewer maintenance such as heavy motor vehicles, air compressor, chain saw, pipe saw, and other equipment as required.
- Prepares and/or receives various forms, work orders, reports and other documents utilizing department’s work order system; completes, processes and forwards as appropriate.

Minimum Training and Experience Required
High school diploma (or GED) required, with one to two years of experience in construction, plumbing or pipeline construction/maintenance (or related); or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. A valid Driver's License is required, and a valid Commercial Driver's License preferred within two years of hire.
