DEFINITION
The primary role of the Water Treatment Operator will be to guarantee the delivery of safe and premium-quality water that adheres to all regulatory requirements and guidelines. Under guidance, the candidate will undertake meticulous tasks related to the operation, surveillance, regulation, assessment, and problem-solving of the water treatment processes at both our Reverse-Osmosis and Direct Filtration Facilities. This position requires the demonstration of discernment and expertise in line with the individual's training and certification level. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
This position operates under the general guidance of the Water Treatment Plant Manager and receives technical direction from the Chief Plant Operator or designated operators as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT / ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Monitor and operate the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to control, coordinate, and manage water treatment processes in real-time.
- Analyze SCADA data and trend logs to optimize plant performance, identify anomalies, and preemptively address potential issues.
- Collaborate with SCADA Technician to ensure smooth integration and interfacing of SCADA with other systems and components within the facility.
- Mentor junior staff on SCADA operations and best practices.
- Observe, read, and interpret meters and gauges regularly to ensure proper functionality and reflect accurate readings.
- Proactively monitor for any unusual patterns or anomalies and take immediate action to prevent potential system failures or inefficiencies.
- Operate pumps, engines, generators, and valves effectively and efficiently, ensuring minimal wastage and maximum system uptime.
- Calibrate and adjust equipment settings as needed to optimize the treatment process for both RO and Greensand filtration plant operation.
- Mastery over the Greensand filtration process to ensure the effective removal of specific contaminants, notably manganese.
- Regularly evaluate the efficiency of the filtration process and seek ways to improve contaminant removal rates.
- Control and oversee the chemical feed systems to maintain water quality and safety standards.
- Periodically review and adjust dosages to accommodate changes in raw water quality or system demands.
- Review and maintain a quick response protocol for emergencies, ensuring the protection of public health, employees, and the facility.
- Regularly review and suggest updates to emergency response strategies based on evaluation of past incidents and potential future risks.
- Strictly operate plants and systems according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Systematically collect water samples daily and ensure that laboratory tests are conducted accurately.
- Maintain logs, ensuring data integrity and timeliness for regulatory and operational reporting.
- Input readings and other critical data into database programs, ensuring easy retrieval and analysis.
- Act as an ambassador for safety, ensuring personal and team compliance with all safety procedures.
- Regularly attend safety training sessions, championing best practices in equipment handling, chemical safety, and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Proactively identify potential hazards and take immediate actions to mitigate risks.
- Perform both corrective and preventative maintenance tasks to prolong the lifespan of equipment and minimize downtime.
- Quickly diagnose issues and conduct minor repairs, ensuring that systems run within operational parameters.
- Demonstrate flexibility and commitment by being available for overtime when needed.
- Ensure continuity of operations by participating in rotating on-call shifts.
- Take pride in maintaining a clean and organized work environment by performing routine housekeeping tasks.
- Ensure that all areas, including those not directly linked to the water treatment process, are well-maintained, clean, and safe.
- Ability to do basic math calculations, additional, subtraction multiplication and division.
