Work Schedule: 9 hours a week. Monday – Wednesday, 1 – 4 pm.
Job Summary
Under the close supervision of the Circulation Manager, or staff member designated in charge, is responsible for circulation, patron assistance, and shelving.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work various hours as needed.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Familiarity with library classification systems and basic computer skills.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.; this position does not support sponsorship.
Major Duties
- Circulation desk duties - using automated circulation system – checking out materials, checking in materials, collecting fines, maintaining accurate records, handling reserve and patron requests, and registering patrons.
- Remove materials from book returns and place them in correct alpha-numeric order on the proper cart.
- Assist patrons with basic information regarding the use of library facilities and resources.
- Assist with interlibrary loan procedures by explaining the service and obtaining complete information from requesting patrons.
- Sort and shelve materials accurately, straightening the collection, shelf reading assigned areas, shifting books on shelves as room necessitates.
- Assist with inventory control tasks to include conducting shelf audits, identifying missing items and notifying supervisors of discrepancies.
- Assist patrons with the use of computer and audiovisual resources and equipment.
- Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must regularly lift, push, pull and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Mental Complexity/Interpersonal Contacts
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to alphabetize and put materials into numerical order including decimals.
- Ability to effectively and professionally interact with a diverse audience.
- Ability to collaborate with other library staff members to support library operations.
