Job Summary
Reporting to the Parks Supervisor, a Plant Care Technician engages in the general care and maintenance of annual, perennial, and woody plants. The work is conducted outdoors and in various weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a United States citizen. This position does not support sponsorship.
- Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license.
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor with weights up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work on uneven slopes, surfaces, grades and terrain in inclement weather and other adverse conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in park maintenance.
- Previous experience in landscaping.
Major Duties- (Essential Function)
- Responsible for the care and condition of annual, perennial, and woody plants.
- Functions include: watering, weeding, mulching, staking, fertilizing, trash pick- up, and participating in short term projects.
- Maintains parks grounds to keep in safe and useable condition.
- Operates City-owned equipment and hand tools.
- Attends all safety trainings as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Marginal Duties
- Attend training, seminars and workshops as deemed necessary.
- Perform all duties in compliance with safety standards and policies established by the City.
- Perform other job-related duties as deemed necessary and additional duties, tasks, or responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Demands/Work Environment (Essential Function)
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
