Job Summary
Work under the direct supervision of the Landfill Supervisor at the Brookings Regional Landfill. Responsible for mowing, picking litter, cart deliveries, and other general maintenance work, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to push/pull and lift disposal carts
- Ability to safely operate light equipment i.e., riding lawn mower
- Ability to work outdoors and on unlevel ground
- Valid driver’s license
- Able to pass a criminal background check
- Must be a United States citizen. This position does not support sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating a ride-on type mower
- Experience working with landscaping equipment; ie: string trimmers, shovels, brooms, backpack blowers, etc.
- Experience operating light equipment; i.e.: pickups, UTV side-by-side
Major Duties (Essential Function)
- Mow and weed
- Pick litter daily from ditches and fence lines
- Deliver collection carts
- Sweep shops
- Wash carts and heavy equipment
Marginal Duties
- Attend training, seminars and workshops as deemed necessary.
- Perform all duties in compliance with safety standards and policies established by the City.
- Perform other job-related duties as deemed necessary and additional duties, tasks, or responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Demands/Work Environment (Essential Function)
- This role requires one to be outside in all types of weather
- Stand and/or walk for long periods of time outside
- Physically able to get in and out of equipment safely
- Lift, push/pull, carry full collection carts
- Bend or crouch repeatedly
- Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including work boots. No tennis shoes allowed.

- Follow safety guidelines and procedures
- Work independently or in a group
