Position Summary
Assist the IT Manager in supporting and maintaining information technology to meet the City’s business needs and goals. Performs helpdesk functions that include troubleshooting of computers, printers, multi-function devices, IP telephony, and a wide range of hardware and software. Reports to the IT Manager.
The IT department provides IT support across the City of Brooklyn Center by working onsite at city owned facilities for operational excellence.
First round interviews tentatively scheduled for May 7, 2025.Examples of Duties
- Responsible for resolution of helpdesk requests that include troubleshooting and communicating solutions to users as they relate to network, computer hardware and software, and IP telephony.
Configures, installs, deploys, and maintains IT hardware and software on computers, printers, multi-function devices, scanners, and other related IT equipment.
Assists with maintaining the Citywide IT hardware and software inventory.
Assists in the training of City IT users on hardware and software applications.
Handles emergency calls for support in the absence of the IT Manager or as needed.
Occasionally, take calls for on-call support.
Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Applied Science or related field from an accredited college or university, completion of a post-secondary certificate program in IT, or two years relevant work experience.
- Experience in configuring and maintaining computers.
- Experience in working with a wide variety of computer hardware platforms and software packages.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and access to an operational, licensed vehicle.
Desired Training and Experience
- Experience in helpdesk functions.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems, IP telephony, and helpdesk software.
- Experience in municipal government in the field of technology.
- Ability to speak, read, write any language other than English, including sign language.

Technical Knowledge: Must have extensive knowledge and proficiency in the use of various IT hardware (i.e. personal computers, printers, IP telephony and others), and software applications (i.e. operating systems, database management, word processing, spreadsheet and others). Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, imaging computers, and deployment of computers.
Physical Abilities: Must have the ability to read and discern visual images on a variety of media. Must have ability to operate a keyboard, mouse and touch screen. Must have the ability to remain seated or standing at the same workstation during the work period with appropriate breaks within that time frame. Must have the ability to move about City facilities to support IT systems. Must have reliable transportation to and from city facilities or other sites. This includes handling, lifting, pushing, balancing, stooping, bending, carrying, kneeling, and driving. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
