What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspection Technician (Seasonal/Intern) position at City of Brooklyn Center?
This position performs comprehensive building and housing inspections on residential properties to ensure compliance with existing City and State codes and policies governing new construction and existing structures. The position performs inspections and related functions of residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with property maintenance and grass/weed violations.
- Performs components of building inspections, which may include: siding, roofing, windows, furnaces, water heaters, and other inspections, depending upon qualifications.
- Performs inspections and related functions related to residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with various city codes including, but not limited to property maintenance, housing, grass, zoning, and nuisance.
- Investigates complaints and issues correction notices.
- Works with individuals in the community to achieve compliance with city codes, while fostering a sense of community.
- Responsible for maintaining records and filing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or GED equivalent, supplemented by two (2) years of post-secondary college or technical instruction in building technology, construction management, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or building construction.
- Must be willing to have a flexible schedule to accommodate inspections, meetings, and other assigned tasks.
- Must have a valid and unrestricted Minnesota Driver's License.
- Must have working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office.
Desirable Training and Experience
- Experience providing customer service or handling complaints.
- Knowledge of general City programs and other community resources.
- Be able to effectively track multiple cases over time to ensure compliance while managing other projects and assignments.
- Computer experience with databases.
- MN Certified Building Official or MN Certified Building Official Limited Certification.
- Certified ICC Residential Building Inspector
