The award-winning Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks Department is looking for team-oriented individuals to help us create quality experiences for every young person in our summer camp programs. We look for Summer Camp Coordinators who have extensive experience working in a summer camp setting in various roles. Summer Camp Coordinators are so important to the unique culture of each of our summer camps. We look for people who are creative and have a collaborative, servant leadership philosophy. Our Summer Camp Coordinators must balance their creative side with good organizational skills that are necessary to running a camp.

Hiring Timeline and Selection Process
This is a non-benefited position that will work up to 40 hours per week during the summer, depending on participant registration. Â Work shifts will take place primarily Monday-Thursday between the hours of 8:00am-5:30pm. During the school year, summer camp coordinators meet 4-8 hours per month to plan and prepare for the summer season.
Anticipated Hiring Wage:Â $21.22 - $26.00 Hourly per hour depending on qualifications
Work Environment
Work may involve extended periods of sitting, standing, and moving about, facilitating a variety of recreational activities during the day, evenings, or weekends in both indoor and outdoor facilities, and traveling to various locations in the Brooklyn Park area. This position must be able to lift objects weighing up to 30lbs.

Summer Camp Coordinators
- Manage the execution of our camps located at the Community Activity Center, Norwood Park, Northwoods Park, and Willowstone Park.Â
- Meet regularly from February - June to interview staff, plan and prepare for the summer season.
- Summer Camp training is June 9-12 with Camp running June 16-August 7. We will be off June 19 and July 3.
- Park building set up dates are to be determined between May 29-June 9.Â
- Summer camps are scheduled from June 17-August 10 between the times of 8:00am-5:00pm.Â
- Summer Camp Site Coordinator hours are typically M-Th 7:45am - 5:30pm but additional hours may be available throughout the summer for special events or programs.
- Engage young people in recreation programs and activities
- Attend all in service workshops and staff trainings as scheduled by supervisorÂ
- Assist recreation supervisor in training of summer recreation staffÂ
- Work cooperatively with other summer recreation staff to create a welcoming and nurturing atmosphere for young peopleÂ
- Lead summer recreation staff in implementing daily lesson plans
- On site daily supervision of summer camp program location, participants, and staff
- Lead summer recreation staff in development and implementation of themes and events for program participants
- Monitor participant progress and regularly communicate with parents and caregivers about specific issues or behavior concerns
- Assist Recreation Supervisor in evaluation of summer recreation staff and volunteers
- Communicate regularly with Recreation Supervisor regarding program location, participants, and staff
- Adhere to department policies and procedures

- 21 years of age or older
- Three (3) years of experience working in a lead role in a summer camp environment
Valid driver's license

- Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds

Desired Qualifications
- Four (4) years of experience working in a lead role in a summer camp environment
- Experience supervising seasonal staff and volunteers
- Experience in coaching sports, leading art/science activities, performing arts, or outdoor educationÂ
- Experience with young people with disabilities, especially Autism or behavior disorders
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid
- Experience in curriculum development
- Additional training or coursework in the fields of recreation, therapeutic recreation, sports administration, coaching, education, special education, social work, or related field
- Previous experience working with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Laotian or Vietnamese language(s)
