The Civil Engineering Intern position provides you real work experience with municipal engineering projects and procedures. Interns will assume an administrative and engineering role that involves performing duties and responsibilities commonly assigned to entry level engineering employees. The intern will work on a variety of projects that impact engineering services operations.

- Assist with general office and field duties within the Engineering Services Division.
- Assist with construction observation, reporting and materials testing.
- Assist with right of way permit inspection, grading and NPDES permit inspections.
- Assist with traffic activities such as traffic counts, speed studies, sight distance inspections etc.
- Interact with other city staff, city residents, contractors and other government agency personnel.
- Work independently on various assigned projects.
Current undergraduate or graduate student in good standing working towards a degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management within an accredited program
Experience
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite software applications and programs, specifically Microsoft Excel
Equivalency
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered
Licenses and Certifications
Valid unrestricted class D driver's license
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals, surveying, general civil engineering design and construction practices
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and direction
- Ability to manage time and workload effectively including planning, organizing and prioritizing
- Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds
- Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets/exceeds customer expectations
- Embrace and engage in cultural shift toward Continuous Improvement
Desired Qualifications
- Experience/knowledge of storm water modeling, NPDES regulations
- Experience/knowledge of traffic engineering principles
- Experience/knowledge of Synchro/Simtraffic software
- Experience with the AutoCAD/Civil 3D
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite software applications and programs, specifically Microsoft Excel
- Previous experience working with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali or Vietnamese language(s)

Anticipated Hiring Wage $19.00-20.00 per hour
