Staff at the Eidem Farm help bring the site alive through planting gardens, caring for farm animals that live on site, and supporting the programs, events, and activities that are scheduled throughout the season.
Seasonal staff at the Eidem Farm can help with everything or focus on one area. Choose from gardening and groundskeeping, animal care, programs and events, cooking and art demonstrations, care and repair of historic tools and equipment, or a bit of everything!
This job is great for people interested in future careers as teachers, naturalists, or groundskeepers/facility operations. It is also a wonderful place for people interested in spending time doing what they enjoy as a summer job or in retirement. We welcome all ages (16 ) and interests to apply.

Staff schedules are flexible and can be days, evenings, weekends, or a mix of all of them. Hours can range from on call to 39 hours a week during the summer. Additional hours are available in the fall for animal care, gardening, and programs.
Open gate hours are tentatively scheduled for Monday through Wednesday, 10am-2pm, Thursday, 10am-7pm and Saturday 10am-2pm. Staff will be scheduled during open hours, private rentals, farm events and on the weekends for animal care.

- Perform daily operations during open gate hours, assist with special events, and can assist with other community events.
- Interpret the historic site using various techniques to educate and engage visitors.
- Interact with children who are on-site for Nature Preschool Camp, open gate hours, and special events.
- Perform manual tasks on the site grounds.
- Receive, welcome, and orient visitors to the historic site grounds and facility.
- Assist in the daily operations and maintenance of the site buildings and program(s), grounds, animals, collections, and clothing.
- Caring for the farm animals on site, such as goats, sheep, and chickens.
- Occasionally assist with off-site activities such as school outreaches, parades, etc.
- Maintain close and effective working relationships with city staff, volunteers, and community groups.
- Attend staff meetings and coordinate work schedules with other staff.
- Learn site-related historical materials provided by Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks staff.
- Provide supervision and security during activities and programs.
- Perform admissions, retail sales and clerical duties.
- Have the opportunity to wear period-style costumes.
- Follow site safety procedures.
- Provide customer service to patrons.
- Perform additional duties as apparent or assigned.
Education
Ability to attend training in early June 2025
Experience
- 16 years of age or older by January 1, 2025
- One (1) year to three (3) years of experience working with young people as a paid staff or volunteer
- Possess a genuine interest in the needs and interests of people of all ages
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere and think creatively in many situations
- Knowledge of or an interest in Minnesota history, agricultural practices, gardening, nature, and/or folk arts.
- Experience working with diverse audiences of varying cultural backgrounds, ages, and abilities.
- Ability to listen and verbally respond to the public and respond to inquiries and comments.
- Demonstrates the ability to comfortably speak in public.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to work in the gardens and care for animals
- Ability to respond appropriately to any emergency or incident that may arise
- Proven ability and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive workplace related to racial equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets/exceeds customer expectations

Desired Qualifications
- College course work or degree in history, recreation, agriculture, landscape design, environmental education, biology, education, early childhood education, arts education, or a related field.
- Experience in teaching, storytelling, or group leadership.
- Experience working with the public and providing customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to professionally exhibit cultural sensitivity, patience and understanding in the course of work duties.
- Interest in and experience with taking care of farm animals such as goats, sheep, and chickens.
- Interest in and willingness to learn about market farming and folk arts.
- Willingness to perform heavy manual tasks related to gardening, agriculture, and horticulture in outdoor programming areas in all types of weather.
- Understanding and knowledge of Minnesota native prairie, flower, and vegetable gardening,
- Experience with site-specific related skills such as cooking/baking on a wood burning cook stove, basic gardening practices, handling farm livestock, ability to understand and explain mechanical functions of farm machinery, etc.
- Proven ability and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive workplace related to racial equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali Lao, or Vietnamese language(s).
