JOB SUMMARY/OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION: This position is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and/or repair of City parks and other facilities utilizing manual and semi-skilled tasks and/or various types of specialized equipment. Work is reviewed through personal inspection and observation of compliance with established work guidelines and schedules by the Supervisor. May be scheduled nights, weekends, and Holidays, and subject to call out.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Mowing and edging of Parks and Recreation facilities or other City properties.
- Weeds all bushes, trees, and flower beds in the facilities
- Performs Turf Management Practices
- Pick up trash containers and clean restrooms.
- Performs minor carpentry and repair work; builds and repairs fences, tables, benches, swings, etc.; and maintains/repairs irrigation system.
- Paints buildings, benches, shelters, and exercise stations.
- Prepares athletics fields for use and other facilities.
- Work safely, diligently, and responsibly at completing assigned duties.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Must communicate and work with all patrons (players, coaches, parents/guardians, co-workers and administration)
- Keep the walking trail/courts/fields/playgrounds/facilities/ gyms clean, splashpad, including trash pickup, sweeping/mopping areas if needed
- Assists the community and facility users in the park with questions and concerns; Communicates park rules and regulations.
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment as required
- Performs opening and closing procedures at various park and facility locations
- Prepares park facilities for programs and events; ensures that facilities are set properly, and there are enough supplies.
- Conduct park patrols and general inspections to ensure the public's safety.
- Manage splashpad and all aspects of the operation, maintenance, and user experience of a splashpad facility, typically found in parks, recreational areas, or community centers. The role would include various responsibilities to ensure the splashpad is safe, functional, and enjoyable for visitors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Equipment: Small Tools (i.e., wrenches, screwdrivers, pitchfork, shovel, etc.), Carpentry Tools (i.e., screwdrivers, skill saw, etc.), vehicle, tractors, runabouts, pesticide/herbicide spray equipment, push mowers, zero turns, gas trimmers, and gas blowers. Skills & Expertise: Ability to follow directions and perform assigned duties timely and effectively while working carefully and complying with safety rules. Knowledge of operational characteristics of assigned equipment and of safe handling techniques and related occupational hazards. Ability to work under extreme adverse weather conditions. Ability to drive with trailer, maneuver, backup driving equipment and safely utilize parks equipment and hand tools. Ability to read, comprehend, implement, and complete written and/or oral directions. Ability to project and maintain a good public image, provide excellent call aspects of the operation, maintenance, and user experience of a splashpad facility, typically found in parks, recreational areas, or community centers. The role would include various responsibilities to ensure the splashpad is safe, functional, and enjoyable for visitors. ustomer service, handle courteously and efficiently, and interact effectively with the public, co-workers, and supervisor. Ability to follow directions and complete assignments accurately and on time. Willingness and ability to exercise sound judgment and perform at an acceptable level of efficiency and productivity. Support the Departments and the Citys goals, programs, and objectives. Ability to work independently and confidentially without close supervision. Ability to read, comprehend, implement, and complete written and/or oral directions in English. Ability to maintain an acceptable attendance record. Willingness and ability to comply with the Citys regulations and procedures. Must maintain an acceptable driving record and be insured by the Citys insurance carrier.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS LISTED AS FOLLOWS:
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Use of both arms, legs, and hands with the majority of fingers, good vision (with corrective device), good hearing (with corrective device), ability to lift and load 50lbs, walking, standing, crawling, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing, balancing, climbing, and stooping.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Five (5) years of experience with landscape and turf management is preferred, or similar experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must have a valid Florida Drivers License and be insurable by the Citys current insurance carrier. Must pass required courses to perform the job. AFO certification within a year of employment, required. CPSI and pesticide applicator certification, preferred.
