JOB SUMMARY: The Park Service Aide is responsible for the safety and supervision of participants in city coordinated events, such as tennis camps or youth summer programs. This position is responsible for the safety and maintenance of park facilities, and enforcement of all park rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain assigned park facility by performing general maintenance and clean up duties, such as, the emptying of trash, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming, wiping down tables and chairs and other furnishings, replenishing toilet paper and hand towels, raking leaves, cleaning parking lots, restrooms, and ball fields.
- Perform manual work in semi-skilled jobs involving maintenance, repair of buildings and grounds and minor construction, including pressure cleaning, graffiti removal, painting and other related tasks.
- Provide courteous, prompt and knowledgeable customer service to the public in person and on the telephone by providing general information regarding programs, events, and facility rentals. Greet visitors in a friendly and sincere manner.
- Assist with the coordination of recreational activities, including setting up and cleaning of rooms for recreational activities and park rentals.
- Routinely monitor assigned park facility and assist in park inspections to ensure the safety of the public and park facilities. Advise supervisor of safety hazards and non-routine repairs as needed.
- Enforce safety and other department rules and regulations. Assistance during special events.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to learn to operate a digital sound system.
- Ability to become CPR and AED certified.
- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities and tasks according to work schedule.
- Ability to get along with others and work effectively with the public and fellow workers.
- Ability to work assigned schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Perform any other related recreational work as required and assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS LISTED AS FOLLOWS:
- Must possess excellent customer service skills and be able to establish good customer relations. Must have an ability to deal with people effectively, courteously and enthusiastically.
- Requires limited knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment typically used in recreational work and clean up duties.
- Ability to understand and follow simple, oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of basic rules of safety and ability to enforce applicable rules and regulations.
- Ability to work assigned schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Additional specialized training, certifications or related experience is highly desirable.
- Must be fluent in the English language.
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Requires physical strength and agility to perform assigned tasks, which include, but are not limited to, bending, twisting, walking, climbing, reaching, lifting and carrying.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: A High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must be able to obtain and maintain and a drivers license within three months from the start date.
