JOB SUMMARY/OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION: The Solid Waste Field Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the City of Brooksvilles solid waste collection and recycling program. This role involves supervising a team of field workers and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of waste collection routes. The supervisor will be responsible for their own designated route or specific projects each day, while also having the flexibility to fill in for front loader drivers, solid waste operators, or other positions as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Under direct supervision of the Solid Waste and Recycling Manager, the Solid Waste Field Supervisor provides skilled collection operations utilizing various Solid Waste collection vehicles and other types of specialized equipment. Essential Functions: As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Supervise and Lead Field Operations:
Oversee solid waste collection, recycling operations, and related tasks for a team of workers. Ensure daily operations are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with City policies.
2. Own Route or Projects:
The supervisor will be assigned their own route or specific projects to manage each day. This includes planning and overseeing the completion of solid waste collection, ensuring the highest level of service and efficiency.
3. Fill In as Needed: Provide coverage and support by filling in for front loader drivers, solid waste operators, and other positions when needed, ensuring smooth operations and minimal disruption in services.
4. Team Management: Directly supervise solid waste workers, providing guidance, training, etc. Address performance issues and provide corrective action and foster a team-oriented and safe working environment.
5. Schedule and Route Coordination: Plan and coordinate solid waste and recycling collection routes ensuring the team operates efficiently. Monitor and adjust schedules to accommodate service changes, emergencies, or staffing shortages.
6. Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that all vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and inspected to avoid downtime and/or safety incidents. Monitor collection routes to ensure efficiency and completion.
7. Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety policies, including the safe operation of vehicles and equipment. Ensure compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations related to solid waste collection and recycling.
8. Customer Service and Issue Resolution: Respond to and resolve customer complaints and service issues in a timely manner, ensuring high customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
9. Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of field operations, including vehicle inspections, maintenance schedules, and employee performance. Prepare and submit regular reports to the Solid Waste Recycling Manager.
10. Other Duties Assigned: Perform other tasks as assigned by the Solid Waste Recycling Manager to ensure the efficient operation of the solid waste division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS LISTED AS FOLLOWS:
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Use of both hands with majority of fingers in each hand. 20/40 vision (in at least one eye), and be able to hear and understand and verbally communicate in English at normal conversational levels in a typical governmental office (corrective devices acceptable). Occasional light lifting and/or carrying, bending, stooping, working, standing and pulling. Must be able to easily carry (50) lbs. Sufficient education to read and understand technical material and prepare simple written reports and ability to enter data electronically into the Citys fleet management system.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred. 5 or more years of solid waste collection, recycling, or a similar field, with at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Valid Florida Driver's CDL License required.
