Post 6-Month Probation: $2,627 per month / $15.15 per hour
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
A non-supervisory position with journeyman level responsibility for the performance of skilled manual labor, including the care and maintenance of city parks, ball parks, landscaped areas, and other recreational facilities operated by the city; primary responsibility is for park maintenance. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:
1) Cuts lawns and parks with power mowers; 2) Operates tractors equipped with mowing apparatus; 3) Trims hedges and walkways; 4) Waters lawns and shrubs; 5) Cleans out ditches and culverts; 6) Cleans rest rooms in parks and recreational buildings; 7) Repairs fences, gates, walls, playground equipment, etc; 8) Polices park and recreational areas to assure they are kept clean; 9) Assists other employees in repairs and maintenance, including painting, plumbing, welding and minor electrical jobs; 10) Assists with the pecan harvest at the Pecan Field Station during the months of November through March; 11) Assists in moving tables, chairs and other equipment to various locations as directed by Parks Supervisor; 12) Performs other duties as assigned by Parks Supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTALCONDITIONS:
Outdoor work. Occasionally overtime hours required. In case of emergencies, required to work nights and weekends. Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to mechanical and chemical hazards. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds occasionally. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push broom, sweep, and dig. Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty and wet, cutting grass and tree limbs. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, and odors. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public. Ability to understand verbal and written communication.

Little contact with the general public; normal contact with other city employees.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have enough education to read and write effectively for this position; must be able to comprehend and speak the English language; a high school diploma or G.E.D. is a plus but is not required.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Basic knowledge of methods, practices and materials used in park maintenance, landscaping, and general construction work; Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions; Ability to perform job satisfactorily without constant supervision.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Valid Texas Driver License.
