General Purpose
Plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises a variety of community services and programs including special events and contracted services for the recreation and/or parks department for seniors, adults, and/or youth.
Supervision Received
Works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Superintendent.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises all participants as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff; review progress and directs change as needed. Payroll, conducts staff meetings.
Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performs cost control activities; monitors revenues and expenditures in assigned area to insure sound fiscal control.
Supervises classes, workshops and activities for persons engaged in recreation and parks programs and co-sponsored programs.
Responds to public inquiries about recreation and parks programs made by telephone, correspondence, in person or during meetings.
Assists in the scheduling of activities at the Recreation and Fitness Center and Parks Department.
Promotes interest and provides information regarding recreation and parks programs.
Prepare community event and recreation publicity; assist in the publication of seasonal brochures; coordinate the dissemination of recreation and community service publicity.
Conduct and supervise special events; develop contracts and hire contracted instructors.
Prepare purchase requisitions; order supplies and materials.
Peripheral Duties
Employee may be asked to perform other duties based on the business needs of the City.
The employee may be asked to work holidays.
Desired Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be at least 16 years of age. First Aid certificate and CRP certificate preferred.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders and the general public; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to plan and supervise individuals.
Skill in the operation of tools and equipment common to a community recreation facility.
Special Requirements
Must be proficient at multi-tasking.
Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
Tools and Equipment Used
Computer including word processing and spreadsheet software; calculator; copy machine; fax machine and telephone.
