- Responds, in person and by telephone, to police officer requests for psychological, sociological, and victim services.
- Performs intervention and assessment services in areas such as: domestic violence, sexual assault, mental health emergencies, child maltreatment, and runaways.
- Performs outreach services to individuals experiencing health and /or housing insecurity issues by providing linkages to services provided by local organizations.
- Engages and establishes relationships with the homeless community to provide supportive services in collaboration with behavioral health and social services organizations; collaborates with service providers to facilitate access to care with the goal of stabilization.
- Works in a variety of stressful and emotional situations.
- Responds to private citizens, schools, and social service agencies requests for assistance.
- Refers and occasionally provides transportation to local treatment and other appropriate locations.
- Provides supportive guidance to other department staff members.
- Provides the highest level of quality service through teamwork and commitment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or closely related field and three (3) years of professional experience in crisis intervention, counseling, or social work; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- Principles and techniques of working with ethnically and culturally diverse individuals with psychiatric challenges and those who may be homeless and have co-occurring or complex issues.
- Principles and practices of effective conflict resolution.
- Methods and techniques of effective communication.
- Computer software programs including MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Developing and maintaining professional and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work including a diverse population.
- Maintaining basic and accurate records.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of work.
- Apply sound reasoning and decision making.
- Maintain composure and de-escalate highly charged situations and individuals.
- Determine appropriate level of behavioral health response within brief time periods.
- Maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
Candidate selected will be required to complete a background investigation consisting of a background interview, polygraph, psychological evaluation and medical exam.
