JOB SUMMARY
The Main Street Program Manager plays a critical role in supporting the revitalization and growth of the City of Buda’s historic downtown. This position involves coordinating and leading initiatives to enhance the economic, cultural, and social vibrancy of the historic Main Street district through strategic planning, community engagement, business development, and marketing efforts. The Main Street Program Manager will work closely with local stakeholders, government entities, business owners, and residents to create a thriving, attractive, and sustainable district. The position reports to the Director of Community Relations & Destination Services and plays a key role in this dynamic department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- On behalf of the Main Street Program, serve as the primary liaison between the local government, historic preservation commissions, economic development corporation, chamber of commerce, business owners, property owners, and residents.
- Serve as the staff liaison between the Texas Historical Commission, Texas Main Street Program, Texas Downtown Association, and Main Street America.
- Responsible for the data collection, composition, and completion of all required reporting to the Texas Main Street Program and Main Street America. Re-establish and maintain Texas Main Street Program accreditation.
- Serve as the staff liaison to the Main Street Advisory Board, including development of the agenda and supporting materials, and providing support to Board committees and their activities.
- Develops, plans, and executes, in partnership with the Main Street Advisory Board and Downtown stakeholders, Main Street Transformational Strategies as outlined by the Texas Main Street Program and Main Street America.
- Facilitate regular meetings, events, trainings, and workshops for the Downtown Buda business community to foster collaboration and communication and improve business acumen and opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with community groups and local, regional, and state-level stakeholders.
- Assist in the recruitment and retention of businesses within the Main Street district.
- Assists downtown property owners by helping market their available downtown properties to potential tenants.
- Provide support for new and existing businesses through technical assistance, marketing strategies, and access to resources.
- Develop strategies to promote economic growth, improve property values, and attract investment to the Main Street district.
- Re-establish and maintain Texas Main Street Program accreditation and compile and submit annual report to the State of Texas.
- Design and implement programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing the district’s appeal, including retail promotions, cultural events, and public art projects.
- Organize events and activities that celebrate local culture and attract visitors to the area, including events like Sip N’ Stroll, Cocoa Jingle, and other beloved Downtown Buda events.
- Lead efforts to improve the physical and aesthetic environment of the district (e.g., historic preservation, beautification, signage, and public space activation). Coordinates activities within the downtown revitalization program. Work with public and private sector organizations to facilitate downtown improvements outlines in the Downtown Master Plan, including reuse of existing buildings and underutilized space, beautification, landscaping, streetscaping, banners, public art, and infrastructure.
- May serve as the staff liaison to the Arts Commission, including development of the agenda and supporting materials, and providing support to Commission committees and their activities.
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote the Main Street district as a vibrant and attractive destination.
- Manage social media accounts, websites, and other digital platforms to increase visibility and engagement.
- Coordinate the production of promotional materials, including brochures, newsletters, and flyers.
- Coordinate with the Buda Economic Development Corporation on marketing and special events related to supporting downtown businesses.
- Prepare, present, and manage the fiscal year budget for the Main Street program.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, sponsorships, and partnerships to support Main Street initiatives and businesses.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of grant proposals and fundraising campaigns.
- Develop and manage grant opportunities for Downtown Buda businesses.
- Monitor and track the success of programs, events, and projects.
- Prepare and present regular reports on activities, budget status, and outcomes to stakeholders.
- Analyze market trends, business performance, and community feedback to inform decision-making.
- Supervise and support any staff or volunteers working on Main Street initiatives.
- Foster a positive, collaborative working environment that promotes teamwork and shared goals.
- Coordinate with other city departments, agencies, and external partners to align Main Street efforts with the City’s strategic priorities.
- Provide presentations to various stakeholders, including City Council, Boards, Commissions, and special interest groups; conduct media interviews in coordination with public information officer.
- Attend trainings and conferences through the Main Street Program, Texas Downtown, and Main Street America. Cultivate relationships with these organizations.
Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in urban planning, business administration, public administration, or a related field, and
- At least 3-5 years of experience in main street program management, convention and visitor bureau activities, economic development, or a similar field.
- Less experience may be considered if strong qualifications in other areas, such as education, relevant skills, or specialized knowledge related to the position are demonstrated.
