About us :
Public awareness is one of the most important components to the City's stormwater program. To help us spread the stormwater knowledge the City joined Stormwater SMART, a cooperative partnership of counties and other municipalities in the Piedmont region with the goal of providing education and outreach concerning stormwater, water quality and conservation issues.
Stormwater SMART is governed by a Steering Committee, on which the City sits, that is composed of representatives from each county or municipal partner. The Steering Committee helps guide Stormwater SMART staff members in targeting audiences and events for environmental education programs each year.
What you will do :
The City of Burlington Stormwater Division seeks an enthusiastic Environmental Education and Outreach Specialist to develop and implement a dynamic K-adult environmental education program focused on stormwater management and environmental topics. Reporting to the Stormwater Manager, this role involves sharing water quality education with audiences of all ages.
Examples of Duties
- Develop and implement a K-Adult education program supporting the City of Burlington Stormwater Division.
- Partner with schools and clubs on environmental projects that have a water quality component.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with teachers in the community who can help further water quality education amongst students (train the teacher programs).
- Facilitate lessons for elementary, middle, and high school science and environmental classes.
- Develop a menu of educational activities that correlates to school curriculum.
- Develop and implement a public education and outreach program supporting the City of Burlington Stormwater Division.
Provide public outreach and education at community events such as fairs and festivals.
Assist with website content management.

The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
