What you will do:
Perform intelligence gathering applications using various forms of databases to assist in investigations aiding investigators with pertinent information using both written and oral communications.

- Preparing and reviewing preliminary reports, supplemental reports, sketches, diagrams, displays, and arrest records, as well as other documents pertaining to cases under investigation.
- Conducting Division of Criminal Intelligence (DCI) and Records Management System (RMS) queries to obtain criminal history, driver licensing, and other information regarding criminal suspects.
- Researching RMS and other photographic databases in order to compile legally admissible photographic line-ups for investigators, or presenting such line-ups prepared by investigators to witnesses.
- Assisting investigators with evidence collection and documentation.
- Responsible for disseminating intelligence through state maintained databases such as North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center (NCISAAC) and Regional Organized Crime Information Center (ROCIC).
- Serves as a Field Liaison Officer for NCISAAC.
- Interpreting and analyzing static data, such as pen register information.
- Preparing investigative reports fully and accurately documenting all activities conducted in regard to criminal investigations.
- Consulting with staff of the District Attorney to prepare cases for prosecution.
- Testifying before trial court or Grand Jury regarding information gained through investigations.
- Operating standard office equipment, as well as surveillance equipment used in the course of investigations.
- Execute court orders and search warrants to obtain data from cellular phones, Facebook and other social media outlets.
- Attend meetings with investigators to provide criminal intelligence gathered and to identify other intelligence that may be used and needed.
- Analyzing data from cell phones or other sources to identify suspect information for the use in prosecution or apprehension.
- Monitoring social media outlets for criminal intelligence gathering/investigations.
- Monitoring video surveillance system and communicating relevant information to officers in the field.
- Some knowledge of current law enforcement principles, practices, and procedures.
- Some knowledge of departmental standard operating policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
- Some knowledge of practices, materials, techniques, and equipment pertinent to job assignment.
- Demonstrated ability to express thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on responsible and confidential assignments and tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to display tact and courtesy in dealing with other agencies and the public.
- Ability to attend overnight training in order to obtain investigative skills and certifications
- Ability to work during non-scheduled hours as investigations require
- Associate’s degree in information technology, business administration, criminal justice or a related field.
- One year of experience in criminal intelligence, crime analysis, information technology, or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position may also be considered.
- Valid NC Driver's license.
- Bachelor's Degree in information technology, business administration, criminal justice or a related field.
- Work in this class is described as being sedentary and seldom requires much physical exertion to complete tasks.
- Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
- Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned in preparing and analyzing figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal viewing and extensive reading.
