About us :
The Water & Sewer Pipe Maintenance division was established in 1907 to maintain the city water system. The system presently serves approximately 30,000 Water and Sewer accounts through a distribution system containing over 440 miles of pipe and a collection system which has over 418.5 miles of pipe.
What you will do :
You will deliver technical support to the Pipe Maintenance Division and assist with customer service tasks. Your responsibilities will include creating and processing purchase orders, maintaining records of work orders, and managing the inventory of materials, supplies, tools, and equipment. This will involve ordering, receiving, inspecting, and organizing pipe maintenance items. Additionally, you will handle work order processing, field emergency and non-emergency calls, and dispatch crews to necessary locations. You will also be accountable for performing general office duties for the division.
Examples of Duties
- Answer incoming calls, retrieve voicemail, generate water & sewer work orders, dispatch sewer calls and supervisors for situations demanding immediate attention, notify emergency personnel / departments affected by water shut offs and street closures.
- Complete weekly time sheets for the supervisor's approval to ensure they are consistent with the timecards submitted by employees.
- Obtain / provide new employee uniform sizes, inform routeman of any size changes or shortages or if an employee resigns / is hired.
- Create "on call" personnel log for after hours and weekends. Email a copy to Burlington Police Department.
- Complete monthly ladder inspections and maintain records of both ladder and forklift inspections.
- Maintain records for Safety Data Sheets.
- Prepare all leave of absence slips and weekly / monthly timecards for personnel department.
- Inventory materials and supplies; review inventory supply requisitions for items not received.
- Contact vendors to determine back-order status; re-order parts when necessary; inspect inventory upon arrival; record all work orders in the computer.
- Prepare monthly summary of work completed by the department.
- Gather information on water & sewer taps, sewer back-ups, and repairs for monthly report.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Perform inventory at end of year, submit inventory list to purchasing and walk through with auditors.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED Equivalency supplemented with vocational training in computing, and 5 years of work experience in inventory, water and sewer distribution, or office support, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
