The Fire Trainee position is intended for individuals who are beginning their career in fire service who have not yet obtained all the certifications required to become a Firefighter/Paramedic. As a Fire Trainee, you will receive the training and hands-on experience needed to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to protect life and property, perform firefighting and rescue operations, and respond to emergency medical calls. Burnsville Fire is a full-time career department that responds to all hazards and provides advanced life support emergency medical service transport capability to our community. Our 55-member department operates out of two fire stations, is ready to serve at a moment's notice, and actively engages with the community to reduce risk and increase safety awareness.

The Fire Trainee values people and perspectives by:
- Quickly and safely responding to emergencies with proper equipment.
- Performing fire and rescue skills as trained and within their current qualifications.
- Attends training sessions, studies material on fire hazards and firefighting or rescue methods.
- Maintains familiarity with city streets and all department equipment.
- Renders aid to victim(s) as required in accordance with department policy.
- Maintains all paramedic skills in accordance with all regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Option 1:
- Firefighter I & II Certifications (Pro Board or IFSAC)
- Completion of a HAZMAT Operations class compliant with NFPA 472 or 1072
- Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic or Advanced Certification (Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board and National Registry of EMTs)
- Valid driver’s license
- Completion of NIMS IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700 (Complete the classes here)
OR
Option 2:
- Current Paramedic Certification (Minnesota EMS Regulatory Board and National Registry of EMTs)
- Valid driver’s license
- Completion of NIMS IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700 (Complete the classes here)
- 1/30 – 2/23 – Application Period
- 2/10 – Information Session at FS 1, 9:30 a.m. (RSVP to Tracy.Simpson@burnsvillemn.gov)
- 3/6 and/or 3/7 – First-Round Interviews
- 3/13 and/or 3/14 – Final Interviews
Salary : $66,768 - $74,547
