Come join our wastewater team!The City of Caldwell is looking for an Industrial Maintenance Technician. Individual performs a variety of skilled and technical tasks related to the installation, maintenance and repair of treatment plant mechanized equipment; performs daily maintenance, repair and fabrication of treatment of plant facilities; performs daily maintenance, repair and fabrication of mechanical, electronic, electrical, and motorized equipment; operates heavy equipment; and performs related work and tasks as required.The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform skilled and technical tasks related to the installation, maintenance and repair of City’s wastewater treatment plant and collection system mechanized equipment; perform daily maintenance, repair and fabrication of treatment of plant facilities; and perform daily maintenance, repair and fabrication of mechanical, electronic, electrical, and motorized equipment. A function of this position is contact and cooperative work with the wastewater treatment plant operator(s), general public, City employees, and other government agencies. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the plant superintendents. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment; daily potential for hazardous exposure to electrical shock, industrial wastes and raw sewage; daily exposure to moving parts and equipment such as pumps, motors, and heavy equipment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Establishes and follows an effective preventive maintenance program for a variety of pumps, strainers, electrical motors, boilers, compressors, and other mechanical equipment associated with the wastewater treatment plant.Acquires proficiency in and effectively uses and implements preventative maintenance software that may be implemented at the treatment plant.Maintains records of preventative maintenance work performed.Performs mechanics and maintenance to assure proper equipment operation.Performs and assures the maintenance and repair of bar screens, grit collectors, screw conveyors, raw sewage pumps, clarifiers, sludge pumps, generators, trucks, and other equipment.Uses various hand, power, and air tools in replacing or repairing chains, sprockets, shafts, rakes, screws, sleeves, bearings, wear-rings, and other mechanical parts.Tears down and rebuilds various pumps.Overhauls and changes bearings, pistons, shafts, eccentrics and other pump parts.Preloads and aligns bearings and equipment.Greases and lubricates all moving parts and equipment.Performs general plumbing and pipe fitting.Overhauls, rebuilds and repairs equipment according to preventive maintenance schedule or where required.Troubleshoots electric circuits, repairs and rewires as necessary.Performs competent welding of various types, as well as acetylene or plasma cutting, in the repair, maintenance and fabrication of plant equipment and facilities.Develops options to equipment needs, analyzes blueprints and creates solutions to mechanical and equipment problems.Welds and fabricates motor bases, stairs, platforms, tank legs, grates, and grills.Performs electrical repairs on generators, pumps, motors, breaker boxes, conveyors, complex variable frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, electrical controllers, with proficient use of voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, multimeters, voltage detectors, spectrum analyzers, and other equipment.Wires replacement pumps and conduits.Receives emergency calls for equipment malfunction.Responds to 24 hours on call and standby.Orders equipment parts and maintains parts inventory.Reads and interprets equipment plans, prints, and specifications.Makes equipment modifications following manufacturer’s specifications.Maintains various records and prepares related reports.Completes work orders and reports on equipment condition (possibly in an electronic format).Maintains an accurate list of equipment, prepares maintenance schedules and maintains adequate parts inventory.Records all maintenance performed on all equipment in logbooks and or digitally.Adheres to and complies with all state, federal and local regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to safe work practices and all operation and maintenance duties.Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress and status, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas as approved.Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.Provides observation and assistance at the WWTP and gives appropriate information and feedback to plant superintendents.Communicates and coordinates with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities to help keep a positive work environment.Respects the opinions of others and maintains a positive and professional working relationship with plant operator, employees, supervisors, public, and others.Accepts and performs in a timely and effective manner changes in work assignments and/or how work is performed.May perform the job function of an Operator.Performs other related duties as assigned.
