The City of Caldwell is looking for a Paralegal II to join our Legal Team. Individual provides support and training of other paralegals. Assists attorneys in managing the day-to-day duties required. This position requires a high level of initiative, the ability to deal with challenging situations, and complete tasks with minimal direct supervision. The position reports to the city attorney.The principal function of an employee in this class supports supports and assists the city attorney by performing legal administrative duties, preparing legal documents, and maintaining case files. This position requires a high level of initiative, the ability to deal with challenging situations, and complete tasks with minimal direct supervision. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials and employees, other government agencies, and the general public. This individual must maintain a high level of confidentiality. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs all duties of lower-level paralegals; may provide assistance and training to others; and performs more complex, skilled tasks.Prepares and maintains civil case files including litigation matters. Drafts agreements and other legal documents and reviews drafts to ensure legal sufficiency, content accuracy, and correct grammar, punctuation, and formatting. Maintains, organizes, and locates documents, records, and files using various document management software. Develops, implements, and refines workflows and procedures. Identifies project goals and milestones, sets and manages project schedules, and assists with project-related problem solving. Manages and maintains all documents related to subrogation cases, collaborating with attorneys and staff. Assists attorneys in magistrate and district court collection matters and initiates and pursues collection of delinquent debts owed to the city. Tracks bankruptcy, estate, and probate cases affecting city collections. Processes public records requests under the supervision of an attorney. Processes property and weapons dispositions using applicable statutes, rules, and case law. Coordinates real property transactions, notarizes documents, and files pleadings with courts. Submits documents for recording in the official records in Canyon County.Provides general administrative support and serves as the initial point of contact for inquiries from employees, members of the public, businesses, and outside organizations; and directs written correspondence and telephone calls to the appropriate person.Independently reviews appellate briefs prepared by an attorney for accuracy and correctness. Performs legal and factual research at the direction of an attorney.Prepares, reviews, and ensures the accuracy of various complex legal documents.Locates, schedules, and prepares clients and witnesses. Coordinates city litigation activities and serves as a liaison between the office and various groups.Researches, analyzes, and summarizes federal and state statutory and case laws and other sources. Provides written and oral legal analysis and conclusions to city staff and the public. Ensures legal correspondence, court filings, and court appearances are scheduled and processed accurately and within deadlines.Analyzes and interprets complex legal information; explains legal information orally or in writing; distinguishes between information provided by a paralegal and what can only be provided by a licensed attorney.Schedules, attends, and prepares the city attorney for meetings, calls, and hearings; takes detailed notes and identifies tasks and action items to perform.Organizes and manages critical dates and calendars for the city attorney for public hearings, filing deadlines, and administrative events.Organizes, tracks, monitors, and updates tasks and projects; anticipates needs and assists in prioritizing tasks and resources.Compiles and submits annual attorney licensing paperwork, including processing necessary licensure payments to the Idaho State Bar Association.Monitors U.S. and Idaho Supreme Court opinions and State and Federal legislation relevant to areas affecting the city's legal services.Performs other duties as assigned.
