ABOUT THE ROLE:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate key strategic initiatives across city departments and with external partners
- Conduct analyses using internal and external data to characterize issues and identify potential solutions
- Scope and define problems and potential solutions with department leaders
- Create PowerPoint presentations on strategic initiatives for City Council and City Leadership meetings
- Research best practices on relevant issues (e.g., homelessness) and synthesize insights
- Communicate with stakeholders about the status of major milestones, potential project risk or delays, and proposed mitigation strategies and contingency plans

Example recent strategy projects:
- Lay out operational, strategic and political considerations for City program expansion
- Create financial model with finance team to inform capital investment decisions
- Facilitate brainstorming and strategy sessions among city staff from different departments to get alignment on path forward
- Support development of a departmental strategic roadmap
- Develop analytic insights and communicate to residents about a human service program
- Synthesize the current approach of City department and work with department leaders and community partners on path forward
- Perform related duties as required
Experience and Education
- 2-4 years of management consulting experience required
- Experience in project management, PowerPoint presentations, and excel models
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to tackle complex and unstructured problems
- Positive attitude and willingness to own all aspects of a problem
- Deep sense of humility, curiosity, and learning-orientation
- Clear communication skills to distill complicated issues into recommendations
- Expert quantitative analysis and critical reasoning skills to structure and carry out analyses
- Strong interpersonal skills to navigate competing stakeholder interests and build collaborative relationships across and outside of the City of Cambridge
- High ethical standards and personal integrity

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to access input and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to operate office equipment including copiers, printers, and scanners. Executes multiple tasks involving keyboarding, telephones, writing, bending, reaching, and lifting boxes of files. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Standard office environment, which includes fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. This position may be eligible for hybrid work under the City’s Telework Policy depending on operational needs.
